The Southern Journey Big Band was formed to play popular music of the swing era, but has evolved into much more than a swing band. Southern Journey is a dance band that continues to play the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and others of that era, but also plays a wide variety of music from the ”Great American Songbook,” popular standards and early, good-time Rock ‘n’ Roll. The band’s goal is to keep the audience entertained, and the dance floor full.
Southern Journey is a 17 piece band with standard big band instrumentation of saxophones, trombones, trumpets and a rhythm section of piano, guitar, bass and drums. Additionally, the band features two outstanding vocalists, male and female.
Southern Journey plays for a wide variety of types of events including private parties, corporate events, private clubs, fundraising events, wedding receptions and others wanting an evening of fun dance music.
Some of the songs the band enjoys playing are Sentimental Journey, Moonlight Serenade, In The Mood, Old Time Rock & Roll, Mustang Sally, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Moonglow, At Last, What I Did For Love, Proud Mary, Moon River, Play That Funky Music, Blue Moon, A String of Pearls, My Girl, Georgia On My Mind, Sweet Home Chicago, Sweet Caroline and many more.
