Dear Band:
For those of you that were not at band rehearsal yesterday (11/08/17), an important announcement was made that I’d like to share with everyone.
When I had the opportunity to lead the Band this year, I had 3 goals. First was to complete the obligations that were already set for 2017. With the Jingle Mingle a week from Thursday on the 16th, that goal will be met. The second goal was not to “break” the environment that makes the Believers Concert Band an enjoyable musical experience for its members. The third goal was to determine the best path forward for the Band that will build on the legacy created by Richard Petty.
Soon after taking a leadership role, I asked for the creation of a Search Committee to conduct a search and make a recommendation for the Band’s next Conductor. This Search Committee included not only band members but also non-band members to ensure a thorough search. The Search Committee has made a recommendation and that recommendation has been approved by the Board.
It is with pleasure that I announce, effective immediately, that David Arvold will assume the role of Artistic Director/Conductor of the Believers Concert Band. He is well qualified and shares the same goals we have come to enjoy.
I want to thank the Search Committee lead by Richard Hunt, the Executive Board, and especially you, the Band Members for the help and support you have given me this year. It is up to all of us to support David to ensure his success. His success will be our success in the years to come.
To ensure a smooth transition for David, the Executive Board has agreed to remain in place for the coming year (2018). They are President, Larry Preiss; Vice-President, Jill Momper; Secretary, Sandy Blankenship; Treasurer, Warren Almond. However, you are welcome to send Jill additional nomination for these positions. Jill with present a slate of officers that we will vote on at the beginning of next Tuesday’s rehearsal (the last of the year). Also, we will vote to adopt the Bylaws that are on the website’s Members Only page under the Music Library link. Please be prepared to vote on these two issues next Tuesday.
Again, I what to thank everyone for the opportunity that you have given me to take a leadership role this year. It has been a pleasure, an experience, and an honor and I am looking forward to the Band’s continuing growth and success.
Regards,
Larry
