Obituary

Janet Blankenship Bass, 80 of Gainesville died Wednesday March 2, 2022 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville following a brief illness.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Bass had lived in Gainesville for many years. She was the daughter of the late John Herschel and Marion Godfrey Blankenship. She was a graduate of Sylvan Hills High School. Mrs. Bass was retired from State Farm Insurance Company, where she was the office manager for Clayton Deavers. Janet was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville and the First Baptist choir. She loved cooking, gardening, cake decorating, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony “Tony” Bass, Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sandra Bass, Flowery Branch, daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Larry Harwood, Dahlonega, grandchildren, Katie Baugh and husband, John of Evansville, IN, Anslie Bass of Flowery Branch, Bailey Armour and husband, Josh Burns of Versailles, KY, and Trent Armour of Boston, MA, and a brother, Jarrett Blankenship, along with numerous other nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Bass is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Frank Blankenship, Dewitt Blankenship, John Blankenship, Eugene Blankenship, Bill Blankenship and Hubert Blankenship.

A remembrance service will be held Sunday March 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Gainesville. Rev. Bruce Fields and Rev. Jeremy Shoulta will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions please be made to the First Baptist Church Music Department, or the Ministry of Caring at First Baptist, 751 Green Street, Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
