Hello All:
I hope everyone is have a great summer!! The band’s summer break is half over and while you’ve been enjoying your time off, much planning has been underway preparing for the Veteran’s Concert scheduled for Sunday afternoon, November 5th. Please mark that date on your calendar now so it won’t be a surprise to anyone.
I want to give you some updates. First, rehearsals will resume on Tuesday, August 29th, at 6:00 PM in the GFUMC Choir Room. I am scheduling this start date to give us a full, well deserved, 2 months off. But when we start back we have work to do on an exciting Veteran’s program. We will have 4 new pieces, one of which is not in print yet but will be available by September. We will also have an appearance by the UNG Patriotic Choir (comprised of Cadets), the band accompanying a female soloist, and a narrated pieced called “The Greatest Generation.” All of the music is well within our abilities and it will be an enjoyable program not only by us but also our audience.
I know I mentioned the possibility of having a composer directing a piece but that did not work out for this concert. We will make this happen at a concert in the future.
Also, we had an Alto Sax donated to the band. I have had it reconditioned and it is now available to anyone that needs a “loner” to get started back in band. Which brings me to an important issue. We need band members in all sections. Please be talking to people that you come in contact with that we have a place for them in our band. Previous experience helpful but not necessarily required.
Summary:
Veteran’s Concert on November 5th
Rehearsals resume on August 29th
We need band members in all sections.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and can’t wait to see you on August 29th.
Regards,
Larry
