What is Windjammers?
Windjammers Unlimited is The Circus Music Historical Society whose mission is to Preserve, Educate and Perform music from the Golden Era of the American Circus.
Preservation: Our summer meet/convention is July 15-20. Musicians from other states will be coming in on the 15th and leaving on the 20th. Our rehearsals and recording sessions will be held in between those dates on Wed-Sat. We will read and record music including marches, galops, waltzes, serenades, overtures. Musicians will need to join Windjammers to participate in this part of the meet. We actually are actively recruiting members during these summer meets.
Educate: There will be an educational seminar Saturday, July 19 from 9-12 pm. The participants do not need to join Windjammers to participate in this seminar. We plan to tell a little history and play some music. Students, teachers, community band members are all invited to attend this seminar. They can sit in the audience and listen – or – they can join us to play the music! We will make sure to have sheet music for those who want to play. Participants will need to register so that we can prepare the correct amount of music parts.
Perform: We will finish out our summer meet with a carnival and concert at the Smithgall Arts Depot on Saturday night. The Arts Council has sponsored the group and it is posted on their summer music series.
