Dear Believers,
We apologize for any confusion that Dr. Cuttino’s May 16 letter to the Band may have caused. It was distributed before the Board had an opportunity to review it. He was “testing the waters” to see what members of the band thought and we appreciate the input from all that replied. With that input, we wish, as a full Board to communicate the following:
While we prefer that each one of our members is fully vaccinated against COVID 19, we understand and recognize that this is a private, personal choice. We respect your rights. We ask that those of you who choose not to be vaccinated exhibit safe distancing and wear masks as appropriate during rehearsals and performances. As conditions change, our Board will re-evaluate these guidelines and act accordingly.
Please be assured that we all continue to be deeply concerned about the ongoing safety of our members, as well as that of our potential audiences. We have continuously sought guidance from trusted medical professionals, and, inasmuch as possible, we have followed reliable, scientifically-sound practices.
Additionally, we are duty-bound to respect and follow the safety guidelines set forth by our host and sponsor, Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Based on current CDC recommendations, GFUMC has established the following guidelines:
“Masks and social distancing will be optional for those who are fully vaccinated. Everyone who is not vaccinated should continue to wear masks inside the building and practice social distancing.”
We are thrilled that we have been able to make music in-person again. We appreciate your willingness to re-convene and rehearse together while also observing safe distancing and masking protocols. Thank you for treading into these uncharted waters with us.
